This PC Can’t Be Upgraded To Windows 10

Microsoft recently rolled out the May 2019 Update to Windows 10. As you likely know, the May 2019 Update is a feature update and bumps up the version number to 1903.

Like other feature updates released previously, the May 2019 Update brings several new features to the world’s most popular desktop operating system. Windows Sandbox, new light theme, and changes to Windows Update are some of the highlights of this version of Windows 10.

Although one can easily upgrade the existing Windows 10 installation to the May 2019 Update (version 1903), it seems that some users are getting “This PC can’t be upgraded to Windows 10. Your PC has hardware that isn’t ready for this version of Windows 10. No action is needed. Windows Update will offer this version of Windows 10 automatically once the issue has been resolved” message.

If you are also getting the same error while upgrading to version 1903 or reinstalling Windows 10 version 1903, you will be glad to know to that the issue is not a major one and can easily be addressed to upgrade Windows 10 to version 1903.

According to Microsoft, the “This PC can’t be upgraded to Windows 10” error message shows up on PCs that have an external USB drive or SD memory card is connected. Inappropriate drive reassignment during the installation is causing the issue.

To resolve the error, remove all connected external media such as USB drives and memory cards. After removing all external media, reboot your computer and then restart the Windows 10 version 1903 installation again. You should be able to complete the installation without any issues.

And if you are getting the error while trying to perform a clean install of Windows 10 version 1903 using a USB drive or SD card, copy the installation media files from the USB drive to a local/internal drive and then start the installation from the local/internal drive by running the setup file.
