Misfit, the Fossil-owned wearable company, is launching a brand new smartwatch today. The new Misfit Vapor X smartwatch fixes some of our gripes from last year’s Misfit Vapor 2 while keeping in line with the same general design cues we’ve come to expect from the Vapor line.
The biggest improvement to the Misfit Vapor X is its chipset: it’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC. There are only a handful of Wear OS smartwatches that run on this chip, so we’re happy to see Misfit included it in this new watch. However, the amount of RAM is a little concerning. The Vapor X has 512MB of RAM backing up the processor, which is the same as the Fossil Sport, which didn’t impress us in terms of performance when we reviewed it back in February. We would have much preferred to see 1GB of RAM in the Vapor X, as is the case with Fossil’s newest Generation 5 smartwatches.
The Misfit Vapor X is Misfit’s lightest smartwatch ever, coming in at just 43 grams. This is thanks in part to the updated design, including the ultra-lightweight aluminum alloy case and the new Sport Strap Plus silicone straps. Misfit has also added two customizable buttons on the side of the case (in addition to the rotatable crown), just like most other devices in Fossil’s smartwatch lineup.
Under the hood, the Vapor X sports an onboard heart rate sensor, GPS, NFC for contactless payments, 4GB of storage for music, as well as an altimeter, gyroscope, and accelerometer. This should make for a fantastic workout companion. Misfit claims the battery will be able to receive an 80% charge in just 50 minutes, and there’s a new battery saving mode on the smartwatch.
Elsewhere, the watch comes with a 1.19-inch AMOLED display, a 42mm case size, 30M water resistance, and a built-in microphone.
The Misfit Vapor X is available for purchase from today on Misfit.com for the introductory price of $199.99 in five colorways. The watch will retail for $279 at a later date. $200 isn’t bad for what you’re getting here — a smartwatch with the latest Qualcomm processor, a good display, and plenty of workout features.
