Definition of Thesis
For those of you who are students must understand the thesis. Or maybe even from the beginning starting on the lecture bench you are familiar with this term.
So what is a thesis? The meaning of the thesis is a scientific work created by a student pursuing an undergraduate (S1) program. Where this thesis was made at the end of the study period or lecture.
Where this thesis is not only made as material to graduate or to become a bachelor (S1) only. But the making of the thesis is intended to see the extent to which a student understands and masters the science of lectures that he learned during these 4 years. So the theme of the thesis is in accordance with the field of lecture of each student.
Functions and Purpose of Thesis
Thesis is not only made by students who study at State Universities (PTN) alone . But students who study at Private Universities (PTS) must also make it when they are about to graduate. While the main function of making thesis is:
1. Evidence from college for 4 years
If at an elementary, junior high, and high school level the person who teaches it is a teacher, then in college the person who acts as a teacher is called a lecturer. When a student is approaching the final semester, he will be asked to make a thesis. Where the function of this thesis is a proof that a student is able to understand well what he learned during his 4 years as a student.
2. Work according to the field
The main function of making a thesis is so that a student can understand the work in accordance with their fields. Because the thesis requires direct research in the field. So that a student can know what exactly the job he will get from the department he is taking.
In addition to the three functions above, thesis making certainly has a purpose. The purpose of making a thesis is:
1. Can write the results of thought into a scientific work
One of the objectives of making a thesis is that students are able to write what they think into a scientific work. Where the results of this thought are arranged systematically and densely and clearly so that it is easily understood by others. So when lecturers and other people read the results of the thesis they will immediately understand the purpose and objectives of the thesis.
2. Describe and solve the problem
In the thesis framework there is not only an explanation of the activity section. But you will also be asked to explain what problems you experience during thesis writing. Where the purpose of making this chart is so that each student can describe the existing problems. Then look for a way out to solve the problems that had occurred earlier.
3. In order to have logical thinking
When a student is asked to make a thesis then they are required to be able to think logically. Where to think logically here means a student must ignore all the feelings that exist and place more emphasis on logic. So that later we can get a thesis that can be accounted for and in accordance with facts that exist .
Thesis framework is divided into 5 parts, namely:
1. Introduction (CHAPTER I)
In the introduction which is located in CHAPTER I is divided into:
Background contains matters that will be examined thoroughly as well as problems that may occur during the thesis making process. While the type of discussion in this background there are two methods, namely inductive thinking and deductive thinking. Where if what is used deductive thinking then explain the general discussion to specific. While inductive thinking is a special discussion to the public.
Formulation of the problem
The formulation of this problem is in the form of questions made at the beginning of the thesis. Where the purpose of making the formulation of the problem is to be an explanation of the problem or thing discussed in the thesis you are making. different goals. Where the aims and objectives of this study are explained in Chapter I.
2. Literature review, framework, and hypothesis (CHAPTER II)
CHAPTER II contains:
What is meant by literature review is a collection of theories that will be discussed in the thesis.
Relevant previous research
In Chapter II also the most relevant previous research results are then compared with current research.
Framework for thinking
In this framework there are two types: inductive and deductive. Where in the deductive framework, the framework of thought contains arguments, theories, and also law which is very relevant to the thesis. Or you could say is a frame of mind that can be tested. While the inductive type is a framework of thought that contains a temporary suspicion until a common thread is found between the two.
Hypothesis is a temporary conclusion from the thesis.
3. Research Methods (CHAPTER III)
Whereas in CHAPTER III there are several parts, namely:
The research design must determine the method to be used to describe a problem. Operational variables
In this chart the data is explained. Both the qualitative data and quantitative data.
Method of data collection
Data collection is done through observation, interviews, questionnaires, to literature studies.
Data determination techniques
There are two understandings on the way data is collected. Namely the first understanding that states if the data is taken from data that has been processed and not yet processed. Then the second understanding which states if the data is taken from other sources or third parties.
Validation and reliability test
After the data is collected and determined then the data is tested on its validity and reliability.
4 Conclusions and Recommendations (CHAPTER IV)
If CHAPTER I through CHAPTER III has been completed, then only make CHAPTER IV which contains conclusions and suggestions of the problems listed above
5. Concluding Remarks
After conclusions and suggestions, the next make an attachment to the bibliography. Where in the attachment of this bibliography contains the books that you use to make a thesis or other information that you use. Your source should be clear and testable so that you can explain it to the supervisor when asked later
As for the characteristics of a good thesis and quality is:
1. Clear background
Thesis of good quality can be seen from how clear the background is in that thesis
2. References from clear sources
Certainly to make a good thesis you must use clear and testable sources or even from journal articles that have a rating.
3. Neat writing
Quality thesis is also neatly written and minimal typo or typing. Likewise with the bibliography must be arranged as neatly as possible.
Now that was some explanation of the thesis understanding that you can learn. Remember, make your own thesis so that later you will not be confused when explaining the thesis you have.
