Linux Boss condemns Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – Tech News for Everyone

The most powerful enterprise Operating System in the world Linux’s creator and principal Director Linus Torvalds has strongly condemned a number of social media platforms, chiefly Facebook which he called a disease to human kind.

In a recent interview,
Torvalds disdained Facebook, Twitter and Instagram saying these platforms seems
to encourage bad behaviour by human beings and he absolutely detests such

Torvalds garbaged the
whole ‘liking’ and ‘sharing’ functions on all these social media platforms, saying
that they offer no effort in quality control of content, resulting in people
sharing any trash that they might come across.

Torvalds further said
the whole thing is infact further geared to the reverse of quality control,
with lowest common denominator targets, click-bait and things designed to
create emotional responses which are often of moral outrage.

Torvald’s sentiments
follows a call by WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton who criticized Facebook and
urged students to delete their Facebook Accounts whilst addressing Students at
Stanford University saying the profit models used by Facebook were unorthodox
and the company was not able to properly curate its profile content.

Torvalds said the idea
of anonymously sharing ideas and opinions did not lend itself to reasonable
discourse and said that anonymity Is important if one is a whistleblower but
their rants should not be visible unless they are attributed to one personally.

Linus is head of
Linux, the leading operating system on servers and other big iron systems such
as mainframe computers and the only Operation System on TOP500 supercomputers
since 2017, having gradually eliminated all competitors and it is used by
around 2.3 percent of Desktop computers.

The Linux family is a
family of free and open-source software operating systems based on the Linux
kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by
Linus Torvalds and Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution.
